Learn treatment techniques to emphasize the strengthening and symmetry of the trunk while activating and strengthening the extremities towards the functional outcome. A problem-based approach is used to determine the aquatic treatment strategies best suited to the pediatric client; based on their identified functional outcome, the task analysis of that outcome, and the impact of water on their movements. A treatment demonstration will assist in planning and integrating aquatic and land-based interventions. Lots of pool lab time to practice the techniques under supervision. Introductory to intermediate level course.

In the Pursuit of Function: Let’s Use Water!

This workshop will discuss the use of water in improving a child’s functional abilities on land. Recognizing that chronic disability presents challenges to the child and family, it is important to integrate fun and recreational pursuits in therapy. Water is an excellent way to provide this opportunity! Task analysis is presented in order to make each therapy session as effective and efficient as possible towards the identified outcome or task for this child. Understanding and comparing essential components of a task to the strengths and challenges a child brings to the session allows the child to focus on task completion. Experiential learning will emphasize the necessity of building core strength as a foundation.
